Day 3

SMUS explores the Old Town of Kyparissia and revisits the NOKY Pool!

After waking up on the beach to the crashing of the waves and the sun peaking over the horizon, we headed for a walk down the beach to join the Archleon group at Kelo Nero beach to help with the morning survey. We observed two nests being protected and got to see the eggs the turtle had laid the previous night, (they look like squishy ping-pong balls). The next stop on the agenda was to explore old town Kyparissia. We fueled up with breakfast at the hotel and began the 30min trek up the hill to the medieval fortress. The picnic spot today was the amphitheatre where we had a view of the entire village of Kyparissia below. The last stop on the agenda was the NOKY pool that was revived by the Vincent family a couple years ago when we lived here. SMUS helped with some repainting last year, including the mural that now lives on the side of the pool deck. Everyone participated in an Athens vs. Sparta water volleyball game and a 50m relay race. Dinner was delicious as usual, Greek salad, pork and spaghetti were on the menu.

The final event was organized beach games between the Greeks and the Canadians, led by Mr. Doland. There was a team of translators who came to assist the group of 20 locals, they soon realized they were not needed as the language of “Brady” was all that was necessary. It was amazing to witness the interaction of the two groups and to observe the universal communication that was able to happen during these activities. This town brings together amazing groups of people and it has been a highlight of my last few years being able to see it.
